Do you wish to enjoy a holistic Easter? And how can we incorporate Easter holistically into our lives?
Well, there are our loved ones' happiness, our environment, and our health to consider.
Although on the one hand, Easter can be too commercial, where do we draw the line? Do we upset the children in our lives and not buy Easter eggs? Should a healthy gym offer free chocolate eggs to their customers? If a colleague buys you Easter eggs, should you reciprocate with the same? Do we need to buy an Easter card?
With regards to the environment, imagine just how much pollution we can save the world by buying the chocolate eggs with the least packaging.
And how about health? As well as chocolate, Easter eggs are notoriously full of sugar and/or colorants. These are given to children, who may then stay up half the night bouncing off the ceiling as the adults try to calm them down. Reading the labels and buying small quantities can help.
So what can we do to make the world a better place at Easter? These are a few of my suggestions...
Teach the children in your family and community about coloring eggs naturally. I remember this fondly from my childhood and taught it to my grandson. And they are of course, edible! A search on the internet produced this lovely site, complete with instructions: http://www.naturesflavors.com/eastereggs.php
Buy free-range eggs or Free Trade organic chocolate whenever possible.
Encourage natural alternatives at your workplace. For example, if you enjoy sharing chocolate eggs at work, read the labels and avoid buying the ones with colorants, hydrogenated vegetable fat and such "baddies".
Again, read the labels with Hot Cross buns and buy the healthier options if possible. Better still, make your own. Here is a lovely recipe from Delia Smith: http://www.deliaonline.com/recipes/hot-cross-buns,1419,RC.html
Hold a gathering with the theme of new beginnings.
Recycle old magazines and cardboard and make into hand-made Easter cards.
Enjoy your celebrations, whatever religion (from Christianity to atheism) you have. After all, Easter is about rejoicing a new beginning.
Enjoy having time off. Your Easter holiday time refreshes mind body and spirit!
